Interlibrary Loan

The Interlibrary Loan service provides students, faculty, and staff of the Wilf and Beren campuses with books, book chapters, journal articles, and other library materials that are not reflected in the YULIS Catalog or not available at their campus library.

Reference works, rare books, fragile volumes, and non-circulating items are generally not available through Interlibrary Loan.

Fill out one of the online forms below, or the printed forms available in the libraries, to request material through Interlibrary Loan.

Beginning January 5, 2024, requests for textbooks cannot be filled. Why?

Required textbooks will no longer be able to be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Unfortunately, though we understand that textbook costs are high, we can't facilitate interlibrary loan requests for textbooks for the following reasons:

  • Few libraries have textbooks in their collections, and those that do are not circulating, since they are often kept on reserve.
  • Because circulating copies are so rare, any that we are able to locate are likely to have long processing or shipping times, often 2 weeks or more.
  • Interlibrary Loan due dates are sent by the lending library and are unlikely to cover a full semester of use. Renewals may be requested but cannot be guaranteed.
  • Interlibrary Loan books are subject to immediate recall if they are needed by the lending library.

Instructors are encouraged to work with the University Libraries through our Open Educational Resources (OER) and textbook alternatives program to identify free or low-cost options to their traditional course materials. Interested instructors should reach out to Wendy Kosakoff, Public Services and Outreach Librarian, for more information.
